Had some great 1:1s and general catch-ups this week. I have struggled this week for a variety of reasons, have totally subsisted on the energy of others, and I’m incredibly grateful for it 💚
The awesome Chanelle passed her probationary (we dislike that word 🤢) period and becomes a fully-fledged member of the dxw crew. Yassss! ✌️
A few thoughts that got scrawled on post-its this last seven days:
- You get what you give in all your relationships. If you find you’re not getting what you’d like, ask if there’s more you can give of yourself.
- Conversation is king, but writing things down is generally a very good idea too.
- If you want to grow roses, sunshine isn’t enough; they’ll need a bit of manure too.
- Be good at doing your job during your working hours. Be excellent at not doing your job at all other times.
I did a couple of days working up designs for interface improvements for the Yorkshire & Humberside Care Record, which we played back to the client and was well received.
Had an initial chat about how designers and developers can improve ways of working together. The growth of the design team and the skills we’ve hired for combined with no on-site working has has brought a bit of divergence and means that we’ve got a bit of retrospective thinking to do. I’m looking forward to us working through this stuff.
Out on a morning ride on Tuesday, flying down a hill towards a narrow cycle path entrance, I heard a bang followed by a hiss, then felt a wobble through the handlebars… RIP my front tyre. Hastened my decision to buy a work stand 😅
