What did I learn?
I’ve been delegating some community-building work to someone who joined the company very recently, and they’ve totally taken ownership of it. It’s been like giving the pandemic-weary body of the team a blood transfusion. A good reminder that more often than not, the right person to do a thing well isn’t me.
While the office vs. remote working debate yawns along on Twitter, I had a small realisation: I’m able to truly absorb much more conversation I’m not directly involved in via Slack while WFH than I would – or could – if those chats were happening in a synchronous, place-based scenario. I feel more broadly aware of more stuff, and all taken in at my own pace.
What did I change?
I was able to give someone a promotion they’d been wanting to achieve for some time, which was very satisfying.
How did I feel?
It was another short week having taken time off to spend with family, which was emotionally exhausting, again.
Work-wise, that likely contributed to me falling short of some of the practical things I wanted to achieve. This was somewhat made up for by some very fulfilling conversations with people from my own team, and beyond. Humans 💚.
